38-Mile Track, 40 Fatalities

May 3-4, 1999 - A Day of Devastation

Oklahoma City has been struck by a devastating tornado, leaving a trail of destruction and multiple fatalities. The tornado, rated an F-5 on the Fujita Tornado Scale, tracked for nearly an hour and a half along a 38-mile path. The most severely affected area was Moore, located about 8 miles south-southeast of downtown Oklahoma City.

The storm brought unimaginable destruction, with homes and businesses reduced to rubble. Emergency responders are on the scene, conducting search and rescue operations amid the ruins. As of now, 40 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the tornadoes that swept through Oklahoma on May 3-4, 1999, with another 675 injured.

The city is reeling from the impact of this unprecedented weather event. Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid the affected areas.
